Manchester City face a tough ask in getting out of Group DPhoto: The Sport Review

Manchester City will face Real Madrid in the Champions League group stage as the Premier League winners attempt to win Europe’s premier club competition for the first time.

The Citizens were handed a tough draw in Monaco, with Roberto Mancini’s side also set to take on Dutch champions Ajax and Bundesliga winners Borussia Dortmund in Group D.
Chelsea will meet Serie A champions Juventus in Group E as the Blues look to defend their European crown, with Roberto Di Matteo’s side also braced for demanding trips to Shakhtar Donetsk and Danish side Nordsjælland.
City’s derby rivals Manchester United were given a seemingly more straightforward draw, with Braga, who knocked Liverpool out of the Europa League in 2011, likely to offer the biggest challenge for top spot in Group H.
The Red Devils can expect a vociferous welcome at the Turk Telecom Arena where they will take on Turkish champions Galatasaray, with Romanian outfit Cluj completing Group H.
Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud can look forward to an emotional return to his former employers Montpellier in what could prove a tricky group for Arsène Wenger’s side.
The Gunners will take on Schalke, fronted by attacking duo Klass-Jan Hunterlaar and Peru striker Jefferson Farfar, while also facing on Olympiacos for the second successive season in Europe.
Scottish champions Celtic were rewarded for finally ending their four-year wait to qualify for the Champions League group stage with a mouth-watering trip to Camp Nou.
Neil Lennon’s side will come up against a familiar opponent in Spartak Moscow’s Aiden McGeady – the winger spent six years at Parkhead – with Portugal’s Benfica completing Group G.

Gulder Ultimate Search 9 beckons with N9.5m, SUV

3 past winners return as Gatekeepers!
As Season 9 of Gulder Ultimate Search (GUS) reality television show gets set to commence any moment from now, all eyes are on the ultimate prize running into millions of naira, and a brand new SUV. Since 2004, Gulder Ultimate Search has continued to captivate audiences worldwide as contestants engage themselves in a battle of brains and brawn.
The tasks are indeed grueling, strength draining and mind-boggling, and in the end, victory always wipes away the tears and sweats shed in the remarkable journey of the jungle. For the past few seasons, N7.5 million and a brand new SUV had been at stake. But this year, the stakes are higher and so is the prize money, which is N9 million, including a brand new SUV and N500, 000 swagger allowance. There is also the bragging right of being referred to as an “Ultimate Champion” and subsequent induction into the Gulder Ultimate Search “Hall of Fame.” But where will Season 9 hold this year? The answer remains shrouded in secrecy.
This year, the hallowed jungle awaits brave and daring young men and women, courageous enough to attempt to unearth the long lost fortune, hidden centuries ago by a wise Gatekeeper – a true hero of old. The jungle is not kind to the contestants. This is not an adventure for the faint-hearted or lily-livered. It is a contest that will test contestants’ endurance, strength, courage and mental alertness. Past contestants have attested to the fact that Gulder Ultimate Search is no make-belief. What is beamed on TV is as real as it gets! Contestants are cut off from the luxury of the outside world. Reality set in as they have to make do with the bare essentials they can lay their hands on in the thick forests. With the bare ground for beds, sticks for walls and palm fronds for shelter, they are at the mercy of severe rains and the scorching sun.
Nature sometimes is not kind. Creeping creatures of the jungle also lurk around. Even food becomes a luxury and sometimes is not guaranteed. In the jungle, friends become foes and every contestant a threat, as they battle for the ultimate prize. But this is a path, which only those desirous of victory must tread. The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step. The journey to becoming the Gulder Ultimate Search 9 Champion – The Ultimate Man or Woman – begins with a step: registration. The guideline for this year’s participation is on the website and registration closes September 13, 2012. Fortune, they say, favours the brave.

Female Banker Dies Of Hypertension Over Inability To Meet 1 Trillion Naira Target

Reports have indicated that a beautiful female marketer with Access Bank Business Unit at Simbiat Abiola, Ikeja, Lagos branch, Solabomi Olugbemi reportedly lost her precious life last Friday after battling with hypertension when she could not meet the target of one trillion Naira set for her and her team.
We learnt that the 29-year-old mother of three disclosed to some of her friends that visited her at the hospital before her death that she had been under a lot of stress because of Deposit Mobilisation mandate Operation.
This was as a result of a reported target given to her team early 2012 by the Divisional Director to raise 1 trillion Naira for the bank in 6 months.
On the last day of the OJC, Sunbomi reportedly collapsed at the office when her balance sheet read negative especially after a customer withdrew about 200million Naira from his account.
She was then rushed to Jolade hospital, Gbagada, Lagos where she was later moved to Military hospital in Ikoyi, Lagos. She was then diagnosed with high blood pressure at the hospital.
Reports also put it that over 60 percent of Access Bank staffers are highly hypertensive as a result of targets they are made to meet in order to keep their 'shaky' jobs.

Do you agree with Mr president?

NDC Blows ₵3.6 Million On Mills

The ‘expensive’ casket carrying carrying President Mills
The John Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government says it spent over GH¢3.6million just to bury the late President, John Evans Atta Mills.
Kofi Totobi Quakyi, Chairman of Mills’ Funeral Planning Committee (FPC), made this revelation at a press briefing in Accra yesterday and added that the amount was even too small considering the high status of the funeral.
It was however believed that the FPC indeed spent far more than the amount mentioned and there were also calls for a revelation on how much of the taxpayer’s money was spent in the various regional and district funerals held for the late president.
According to the FPC, the GH¢3.6million was used to pay for the hospitality bills of the Heads of State and foreign delegations, printing of books of tributes, order of service and pictorial book on the late president, site preparation and cost of the casket.
The books were printed in Dubai, sidestepping local printers and publishers. The books were brought into the country through a chartered Emirates Airlines flight from Dubai.
The casket alone, according to the Committee, cost an amount of GH¢4,660.
Totobi Quakyi
The FPC said other expenditure went into painting, cost of repairs at the Independent Square and State House, the construction of special dais at the  Independent Square, hiring of chairs and canopies, feeding, honorarium to performing artistes, floral and funeral services.
Mr. Totobi Quakyi said out of the GH¢3.6 million spent to bury the late president, government contributed an amount of GH¢1.4million (¢14billion) and the remaining GH¢2.2million were donations from individuals and institutions.
He said the detailed income and expenditure would be subjected to audit as was required under the country’s financial regulations.
Mr. Totobi Quakyi noted that none of the FPC members received sitting allowances or any pay for the job done.  “This was purely voluntary work in the service of Ghana,” he added.
Touching on the Asomdwe Memorial Park which was closed to the general public on August 20, 2012, for completion of work, he said, “It is expected to be re-opened to the general public in the middle of October this year.”
He said the Committee had also informed the State about a request from the family of the late president in Ekumfi to hold the 40 days customary celebration on 20th September, adding that “a national thanksgiving service to round off the funeral celebrations has also been proposed to government by the committee”.
Mr. Totobi Quakyi said the committee had recommended to the government, the provision of disability access to the Banquet Hall and all public buildings should be expedited.
This, he said, was due to the fact that the committee was not happy to see physically challenged persons who came to the Banquet Hall to pay their last respects being lifted in wheelchairs or carried up the stairs on the back of some security personnel who were in attendance.
Mr. Totobi Quakyi said, “The Committee was tasked with the funeral and burial of our late president and as far as we are concerned our job is done.”
Therefore, he said, the Committee ceased to operate and all residual matters should be referred to the office of the Chief of Staff at the Castle.
